I stood in my room one midmorning for about fifteen minutes trying to find out the reason why lots of people strongly envy other’s positions, possessions and advantages in life. As I looked through the window while the sun was slanting through it, I remembered I’ve not read from my ‘daily life’s manual’. I was then triggered by my curiosity to search for the answer from it.
This daily manual as I refer to it is the perfect book ever on earth. It’s not any rare material. You have it,I have it and it’s everywhere- THE BIBLE. Every solution to your life’s problems has been stipulated in it. You have to be devoted to reading and understanding the pretext and context of the text in it. Having known the answer to my question,I then decided to ratify the answer to my question.
On one Sunday morning during Sunday school service, I laid my question before the congregation. Though the text on which my answer dwells is self-explanatory,the idea behind my proposed question as a preliminary to my main issue of jealousy was to make the the congregation understand certain truths about life and the need not to be jealous of others successes. So I asked “According to Ephesians 4:7′ But unto everyone of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ ‘KJV, are we given grace in accordance with our gifts?”It seems childish to ask such a question since the text is clear to understand. The facilitator then gave a sharp riposte to my question adding that the read text is perspicuous. I nodded and sighed as I wanted to proceed with my next question; Then why the jealousy? Unfortunately for me, it was time to proceed to the next session of the service.
Why the jealousy? Is it because we don’t know ourselves( Identity)? Or could it be that our scriptures have skipped us? It’s quite obnoxious to see people envy others on baseless reasons. Do we have to wait for the full dominion of the holy spirit to annihilate this intimate character of ours? Do we need deliverance?. I must be quick to add 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 and 1 Corinthians 12:27-30. “Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?”1 Corinthians 12:30,ESV. Then why? Why? Green-eyed monster, why?
May be you envy someone because you value yourself as; having a good stature deserving a certain position, being handsome, beautiful and what have you but your victim lack them yet has chalked success and has been honoured. On the other hand, your envy might stem from the compliments your victim receives from others. You performed on the same stage with him but now you’re offstage. Being offstage does not call for envy. Rather consider that ‘off’ as a moment of adequate and fierce preparation that when you’re back on stage, your success will be an auxiliary one to the former. They like and praise him more than me. And so what? Just ascertain the cause of it. If you have no idea, ask before you run into a ditch.
